Central Aceh Declares Flood and Landslide Emergency, Access Completely Disconnected

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDA ACEH — Regent of Central Aceh Haili Yoga established the emergency status of flood and landslide disaster after nine residents were reported to have died as a result of landslides accumulated in several points. The status designation was announced on Thursday (27/11/2025).

Four landslides were recorded causing death, consisting of three residents of Kampung Paya Tumpi, three residents of Kampung Daling, two residents of Kampung Kelpuk Mata and Tami Dalem, as well as one resident who died in the tourist area of Natural Park. “But the miris there are two more that we haven't been able to evacuate because of a lack of tools,” Haili Yoga said.

Haili insists Central Aceh needs assistance support from President Prabowo through the Governor of Aceh and BNPB, especially heavy equipment such as loaders and excavators to speed up the evacuation process and opening access.

Access to Central Aceh is currently practically paralyzed. The path from Central Aceh to Bireuen was covered by landslides in the areas of Merie Satu Satu and Mushroom Ujung. The direction of Mount Salak towards North Aceh is also impassable.

The Takengon—Blangkejeren line in the Isak region was also cut off, as were the lines to Pidie in Rusep and Pame. “Everything can no longer be passed by two-wheelers and four-wheelers, so today Aceh Central is really besieged,” he said.

As of Thursday, 28 refugee shelters had been opened in schools and mushalas, housing 426 families or 1,023 people. The number is expected to continue to grow as the rain has been going on non-stop for six days. Conditions were compounded by the outage of electricity and telecommunications networks.

The disruption of distribution also hit the agricultural sector. The Regent revealed that more than 12,000 hectares of chili pepper land that is entering the harvest period cannot be distributed to other regions due to interrupted access.

“We came to the site of the landslide, the ground is still moving. About 13 homes are stockpiled and may be able to add up. Then we need to convey that Central Aceh is currently an emergency response area,” Haili Yoga said.
