MotoGP Spectators at Mandalika Circuit Reached 142 Thousand People

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LOMBOK -- Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir said that the number of Indonesian MotoGP spectators at Mandalika Circuit, Central Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara reached 142 thousand people. According to Erick, the darkness of MotoGP in Lombok is also having an impact on the national economy.

“Awesome. A total of 142 thousand people watched MotoGP Mandalika,” he said at Mandalika Circuit, Central Lombok Regency, Sunday (5/10/2025).

Erick appreciates the success of the world's most prestigious motor racing event, this success is independent of the role of all parties from the central government, local governments, industry players, and the Ministry of Tourism. “It's an achievement we can see, we are solidly working together to ensure this MotoGP agenda as an important part of Indonesia's promotion,” Erick said.

In his opinion, MotoGP success at the Mandalika Circuit should not stop on euphoria. Ongoing evaluations must continue to be improved.

Mainly in improving tourism facilities and availability of accommodation in Mandalika area and surrounding areas. For this reason, the former SOE Minister insists the central government continues to encourage investment. The party has also invited the Deputy Minister of Investment to be able to attract new investors in KEK Mandalika.

“The number of hotels can hopefully be increased, investment as well. If Indonesia ever succeeds in building Nusa Dua, surely here (Mandalika) can also succeed,” he said.

Furthermore, Erick said, MotoGP success in Mandalika, was not only a sporting success but also had a national economic impact to reach Rp4.8 trillion. While Governor of NTB, Lalu Muhamad Iqbal acknowledged the impact of MotoGP in Mandalika on the local economy was very real for the local community.

“It's real yes and the rooms are used not only in Mandalika but also in ring 2 Mataram and ring 3 Sengiggi. It was from a very high occupation with a price also that was much higher,” he said. Not only that, said Iqbal with the familiar greeting of the Governor of NTB, the SMEs involved are also much more. If in MotoGP 2024 there are 60, but in this year there are 120 MSMEs.

“So from the top to the bottom economies are affected by this MotoGP. So this is a good momentum for the revival of our MSMEs,” he said.
