REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Prabowo Subianto confirmed that Indonesia has the opportunity and eligibility to participate in the 2030 World Cup. Therefore, the government is committed to providing full support to the efforts of the All-Indonesia Football Association (PSSI) and the national team in realizing this target.
“Indonesia is a great nation. A great nation must have great ideals and the courage to make them happen. I consider that Indonesia deserves to be able to participate in the 2030 World Cup,” President Prabowo's message read by PSSI General Chairman Erick Thohir during the PSSI Congress event Monday (3/8/2026), in Jakarta.
Prabowo admits the road to the 2030 World Cup will not be easy. However, he insists all elements of the nation must make every effort so that the ideal can be realized.
According to Prabowo, the government will continue to give full support to the hard work of PSSI and the Indonesian national team. He judged achievement could only be achieved through hard work, discipline, and unity as the character of a great nation.
The president also stressed football has a meaning that goes far beyond a match. This sport, he said, teaches the importance of discipline, sacrifice, cooperation, as well as putting the interests of the team above personal interests. Those values are judged to be an important foundation in building the character of the younger generation and the progress of the nation.
Prabowo expressed his pride to see the Indonesian national team able to unite the whole people every time they compete. According to him, at that moment the whole society merged into one identity as the Indonesian people who supported Merah Putih.
He considers football not just a sport, but a force capable of strengthening unity while strengthening love for the Motherland. Therefore, the development of national football is also part of the effort to preserve the honor of the nation and enhance the dignity of Indonesia in the eyes of the world.
On the other hand, Prabowo revealed that he had asked the Minister of Youth and Sports, who also serves as PSSI Chairman General, to draw up a blueprint for the Indonesian national team towards the 2030 World Cup as a direction for the sustainable development of national football.
The government, he continued, will continue to be present through funding support, building sports infrastructure, strengthening early childhood coaching, improving the quality of sport's human resources, as well as a range of policies that support the progress of national football.
“I am confident that with unity, hard work, discipline, and genuine spirit, Indonesia will be able to realize these great ideals. Not just to qualify for the 2030 World Cup, but to build an Indonesia that is stronger, more respected, and more respected by the world,” Prabowo said in his closing message.
