Kenneth Gainwell ran for 99 yards and two touchdowns and the Pittsburgh Steelers held on to beat the Minnesota Vikings 24-21 on Sunday in Ireland’s first regular-season NFL game.

DK Metcalf had five catches for 126 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown for the Steelers, who improved to 3-1 going into their bye week.

The Steelers’ victory gave quarterback Aaron Rodgers his first international win in front of a decidedly pro-Steelers crowd of 74,512 at Croke Park. Rodgers was 18 for 22 for 200 yards and the touchdown to Metcalf. Carson Wentz, making his second consecutive start for the injured JJ McCarthy, was 30 for 46 for 350 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions for the Vikings (2-2).

However, Pittsburgh’s win was tempered by the news that their backup quarterback, Skylar Thompson, was “jumped and robbed” on Friday night in Dublin. The NFL Network reported the 28-year-old had sustained minor injuries during the robbery.

“We are aware of a situation involving Skylar Thompson on Friday night in Dublin,” a Steelers spokesman said. “We will have no further comment at this time as we are working with NFL security to gather more information regarding the incident.”

The NFL Players Association said it was providing support for Thompson.

“The NFLPA is actively gathering more information and working to understand the full circumstances surrounding what took place,” it said in a statement. “As always, our priority is the health and safety of our player members - especially as we continue to work on player protections and well-being while playing international games.”
