Armed officers arrived at an address on Hardale Grove on Thursday afternoon

A three-month-old girl died in a suspected dog attack in Redcar, police said.

Armed officers were sent to an address on Hardale Grove, in Dormanstown shortly after 13:30 BST on Thursday over reports of concern for a child.

Cleveland Police said officers destroyed a dog on the street and another at the property.

A 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control and causing injury resulting in death. He has been released on conditional bail.

Police say they believe she died as a result of a dog bite.

A woman, 31, was bitten on the arm and received treatment at hospital.

Both dogs were assessed by a specialist officer and were not believed to have been a banned breed.
