Championship leaders Coventry bounced back from their first league defeat of the season as they came from behind to beat Sheffield United 3-1 at the CBS Arena.
The former Sky Blues defender Sam McCallum put the Blades ahead in the first half before Tatsuhiro Sakamoto and Bobby Thomas scored after the break. Brandon Thomas-Asante added a third at the end to secure a ninth win of the season.
The defeat made it three in a row for Chris Wilder’s side following losses to Preston and Derby, meaning United stayed in the relegation zone.
The Blades’ opener came midway through an end-to-end first half when Ben Mee got ahead of Victor Torp and glanced Sydie Peck’s corner into the path of McCallum to sidefoot home from close range.
Shortly after the break, Milan van Ewijk’s long throw broke for Sakamoto, who drilled his effort into the bottom corner to score for the third game in succession.
Frank Lampard’s side were ahead on the hour mark when Torp’s hanging corner was nodded in by Thomas, who claimed his second of the season. Then, as time ran out for the visitors, Haji Wright broke the offside trap and squared for Thomas-Asante to tap in.
Lewis Baker scored twice as Stoke brushed aside Oxford 3-0 at the Kassam Stadium to move up to second. Steven Nzonzi was also on target, scoring the best goal of the night, making it eight in two matches for Mark Robins’s men after their 5-1 drubbing of Bristol City at the weekend.
Baker put the Potters ahead in the 10th minute, finishing off his team’s fast counterattack after they had cleared a Will Vaulks long throw.

Nzonzi doubled the lead with a classy second goal in the 32nd minute as he peeled away from a group of players to volley in Baker’s right-wing corner. When Baker followed up his own blocked shot with a smart low finish three minutes into the second half to make it three, the match was effectively over as a contest.
Luke Ayling’s header deep into added time helped 10-man Middlesbrough secure a 1-1 draw against Leicester after Jordan Ayew’s controversial first-half penalty at the King Power Stadium. However, despite the final whistle being joyously celebrated by the away end, Boro slipped to third, while Leicester were booed off for a second successive home game.

Fortune favoured Leicester in first-half stoppage time, however, when referee Adam Herczeg made his controversial penalty call. Abdul Fatawu charged down an attempted clearance by Aidan Morris, with the ball bouncing to Hayden Hackney right on the edge of the area. The midfielder stuck out an arm and contact was certainly made but Boro insisted that had taken place outside the box. Ayew made no mistake from the spot to give City the lead.
As they chased the game, Middlesbrough’s Alfie Jones was shown a straight red in the 89th minute for cynically stopping substitute Stephy Mavididi from being sent clear.
However, Ayling headed home in the sixth minute of stoppage time to spark wild celebrations in the away end. Callum Brittain launched a cross to the far post and the centre-back beat Caleb Okoli in the air to head across goal.
Birmingham recorded a 4-0 victory for the second time in four days as they clinically dispatched in-form Millwall in the Championship. Chris Davies’ side were in devastating form as they followed up Saturday’s thumping of Portsmouth.
Paik Seung-ho set them on their way in the 28th minute with his third of the season before Demarai Gray sidefooted in the second in the last minute of the half.
Alex Cochrane smashed a left-foot volley past Max Crocombe in the Millwall goal to make it three within four minutes of the second period and Jay Stansfield added a fourth in the 66th minute to cap a ruthless show.

It brought a sudden halt to the Lions’ five-game unbeaten run – four of which they had won while keeping three clean sheets. However, they remain in the playoff places despite their goal difference slipping to minus-three.
Charlton manager Nathan Jones labelled Sonny Carey a “revelation” after his stoppage-time winner in the 1-0 victory against West Brom.
The 24-year-old struck in the fifth minute of added time – his fifth goal since joining the Addicks on a free transfer from Blackpool.
West Brom goalkeeper Joshua Griffiths kept out Greg Docherty’s first-half penalty and made a superb stop to deny Carey in the 55th minute. However, Griffiths was beaten when Carey hit a 30-yard strike which deflected off Baggies substitute Chris Mepham and squirmed underneath the visiting keeper.
Lars-Jørgen Salvesen scored his first goal of the season as his Derby side beat Hull 2-1 at Pride Park. The Norwegian striker took advantage of a mistake by goalkeeper Ivor Pandur to score give Derby a fourth straight victory.
Carlton Morris had followed his hat-trick against Sheffield United on Saturday with a first-half header to put Derby in front but Hull hit back in the second half.
Joel Ndala scored his first senior league goal but Hull’s six-game unbeaten run was ended by Pandur’s late error.
Yuki Ohashi’s strike just before the break proved enough for Blackburn to take the points from a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Bristol City at Ashton Gate.
The decisive moment came in the fifth of eight minutes of stoppage time at the end of the first half when Ryoya Morishita skilfully got behind City’s defence on the right and crossed low for Ohashi to fire home from the edge of the six-yard box.
Ipswich and Watford fought out a 1-1 draw at Portman Road with both goals coming during a five-minute spell in the first half. The visitors’ leading scorer Imran Louza found the net after 16 minutes, with Jaden Philogene equalising for the home side.
Ipswich enjoyed the lion’s share of possession and shots but failed to find the crucial winner. The result dropped both teams down the league, with the hosts down to 10th and Watford falling to 12th.
